COMING SOON: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) updates

A
Written by Antonio

We’re enhancing how DoLS referrals are captured and displayed in mCare to support better compliance, record-keeping, and regulatory evidence. A new DoLS risk assessment form will be introduced to record the full history of DoLS referrals linked to a Mental Capacity Assessment.

What’s new:

  • A dedicated DoLS Risk Assessment form to track historical referral information.

  • Ability to record CQC notification numbers and dates for each referral.

  • The DoLS tile will now display in blue when a referral is in progress, making it easier for users to see the current status at a glance.

Current challenge:

At present, DoLS referral details are stored within the Mental Capacity form, but it’s difficult to maintain a clear history or track notification numbers. Users also lack a clear visual indicator when a referral is underway, which can make compliance monitoring more complex.

How this improves care:

This update provides greater visibility and structure to the DoLS process, helping users follow the correct workflow and demonstrate compliance with CQC and local authority expectations. It ensures all relevant documentation, referral tracking, and regulatory evidence are clearly recorded in one place.
