The Nightly Check Report provides a clear overview of recorded nightly observations for service users during overnight shifts. It helps teams review sleep patterns, monitor wellbeing checks, and understand overnight activity recorded by staff.

The report supports operational oversight by presenting nightly observations in a structured timeline, making it easier to review overnight care delivery and identify any trends or concerns.

Where to Find The Report

Screen 1: Entry point for Nightly Check

The Nightly Check Report can be accessed from:

Reports → Team → Nightly check

Nightly Check Report - Deep Dive

The Nightly Check Report displays overnight observation records based on the filters you apply. When first opened, the report loads in an initial state with no data shown until filters are selected.

Key capabilities include:

  • Viewing nightly checks for selected dates

  • Filtering by worker

  • Adjusting night shift start and end times

  • Reviewing overnight observation codes in a timeline view

  • Accessing detailed care notes linked to observations

  • Navigating directly to worker profiles

Initial State (Before Filters are Applied)

When the Nightly Check Report first loads:

  • The Filters section is displayed at the top of the page

  • No nightly check data is shown by default

  • An informational message prompts the user to apply filters

What this shows

A message indicating that no information is available until filters are applied.

Use this to:

  • Understand that filters are required before loading data

  • Prepare the report criteria before reviewing results

  • Avoid unintentionally reviewing incomplete or unrelated records

Filters Section

The Filters section allows you to configure which nightly records are displayed.

Available filters include:

  • Date – select the reporting date

  • Worker – filter results by a specific staff member

  • Night Shift Start – define the start of the reporting window

  • Night Shift End – define the end of the reporting window

Once filters are set, select Apply Filters to load the report.

Use this to:

  • Review overnight care for a specific shift

  • Focus on one worker’s recorded checks

  • Adjust reporting windows to match operational shift patterns

After filters are applied, the report displays:

  • Service User name and profile image

  • Observation timeline across the night shift

  • Recorded action codes at specific times

  • Care note references

  • Worker associated with the entry

  • View Worker button

Each row represents a service user and their overnight observations.

What this shows

A structured timeline of overnight care and resident wellbeing checks.

Use this to:

  • Review overnight monitoring patterns

Common codes include:

  • SI – Sleeping

  • A – Awake

  • Co – Continence Check

  • C – Chair

  • W – WC / Toilet Visit

  • S – Soiled

  • R – Repositioned

Viewing Care Notes

Selecting View within a recorded entry opens the related care note.

The care note may include:

  • Observation details

  • Recorded comments

  • Worker name

  • Timestamp of the record

  • Understand why an observation was recorded

  • Support audits, reviews, and follow-up care decisions

View Worker

Selecting View Worker redirects you to the Staff Details page.

This page includes:

  • Staff profile information

  • Contact details

  • Role information

  • Assignment details

What this shows

Direct access to the worker’s profile.

Use this to:

  • Confirm who recorded the observation

  • Review worker information

Filtering by Service User

When filtering by Worker, the report narrows results to service users linked to that worker’s recorded overnight activity.

This provides a more focused view of:

  • Assigned residents

  • Recorded observations

  • Care notes entered during the shift

What this shows

A filtered view of overnight care activity linked to a specific worker.

Use this to:

  • Review workload and recorded activity by staff member

  • Investigate shift-specific care delivery

  • Support supervision and operational review

Filtering by Night Shift Hours

You can adjust Night Shift Start and Night Shift End to change the reporting window.

For example:

  • Start: 22:00

  • End: 06:00

This updates the timeline to display observations only within that window.

A configurable overnight reporting period.

Use this to:

  • Match reporting to operational shift hours

  • Review shorter or extended overnight windows

  • Focus on specific time periods during the night

Empty State (No Data Found)

When filters are applied and no matching nightly check records are found:

  • The Filters section remains visible

  • No observation data is displayed

  • An informational message confirms no results are available

What this shows

That no nightly observations match the selected criteria.

Use this to:

  • Adjust filters

  • Confirm that no records were entered for that period

Navigation and Page Action

Navigation controls provide quick access to page actions.

These include:

  • Copy API Link – copy report data for sharing or integration

  • Print – print the current report view

  • Return to Top – quickly navigate back to the top of the page

  • Pin – keep the report pinned in view

  • Minimise / Collapse – reduce the visible report area

Use this to:

  • Export report data

  • Print records for review

  • Improve navigation efficiency

  • Keep frequently used reports easily accessible
